Report # 1028
So it seems like Xanga is doing its best to imitate the VCR… staying around as long as possible ! I really did think that my last entry would be the end, but now it really does seem like Xanga will manage to stay around, though I’m still not sure what the new format will be like and if it’s something that I’ll be able to continue on with. However if all of my posts are moved over then I will certainly find a way to integrate into the new community. At the very least, it definitely sounds like I’ll be here for another month. So my good-bye was a little ahead of its time, but that’s ok…. better to say good-bye and have nothing happen than to say nothing and for it really to be the end.
So I’ve already been in my apartment for three full days already, and things are slowly coming together. I went to Soriana on Tuesday afternoon and I got all of the grocery shopping done. I had to buy a few things for the house such as a garbage can, mop, broom, dust pan and bucket, but now all of those things are bought so the next time should be just food. I certainly have enough food to last for a while, so now that I won’t be eating out in restaurants everyday, I will definitely be spending less money. Unfortunately the bucket I bought was leaking, but I went back the next day and returned it and was given another one.
The weather has been mostly the same all week, getting up to around 38 C (100 F) and of course feeling scorching hot underneath the sun. At least it’s been a very dry heat, so it’s nothing like I felt last year on the coast of Michoacán with all of that humidity. And after August passes, the temperature begins to drop, so it will get cooler. It would be nicer to have the nights below 20 C, so by the time the fall is here it will be a lot more comfortable. It’s been 10 days since I got all of my paperwork to the migration place, but I just checked the page and still no news. They did tell me about 20 days, so I guess I’m almost half way there so far.
My days have been incredibly boring…. I really don’t know what I’m supposed to do all of these days. We don’t have internet in the apartment yet, though my roommate told me that today she will talk with the company, so it should be coming soon. Internet won’t save me of course for the whole day, but it would give me something to do. I would like to get running again everyday, though I haven’t done that since I’ve moved here. We still don’t have the washing machine there as the lady said a part was missing so that is kind of frustrating. I certainly don’t want to have to go to a laundry mat since we are supposed to have the machine here, so I don’t want to waste unnecessary money.
While the apartment is very nice and modern, I don’t think the people who own the place have been as prepared as they could have been. They new weeks ago that people would be there by August 1, and they certainly didn’t have everything 100 % ready for that day, so that has been kind of frustrating. Considering they got their money a long time ago and they knew for so long that people would be coming in, I think they could have went into the apartment a week prior and made sure everything was in order. So I’m hoping in a few days everything will be in order and there won’t be any problems.
Seeing as I’ve been pretty bored, I’ve gone to the movie theatre a few times. On Wednesday I saw Scary Movie 5 even though I hadn’t seen any of the previous ones. It was exactly how I thought it would be… funny but incredibly ridiculously stupid. Yesterday I went to see The Bling Ring seeing as there was nothing else really to see. They say the movie is based on true stories, but I really think some things were exaggerated. Are the actors living around Los Angeles that stupid to leave the doors to their houses open, many without any alarm systems ? And leaving a key right under the front door mat ? I mean I know it’s Paris Hilton, but even she must know better than that ! Overall it was just a ridiculous movie and if all of those robberies really did place, a lot of them were because of plain stupidity by the people who owned the cars and houses…. not locking and securing them !
I might see a friend tomorrow which will be nice… certainly better than on Tuesday. I met a friend on Tuesday, and I waited for like an hour and a half. Some people just don’t know how to be on time. I could understand maybe if someone is 20 minutes late, but an hour and a half…. that’s ridiculous ! I was waiting in Plaza Mexico so long I actually got cold sitting in there for so long with all of the air conditioning. There is one movie that I want to see this week, about the magicians that rob a bank, but I don’t know if I’ll go today, as I really don’t want to be in the movie theatre three days in a row ! So basically I’m a lot more settled now than before, and just a few more things need to happen and I think everything will be ok.
Progress has been made, of course a lot slower than I would have liked, but I am getting somewhere. It will be a big challenge for me to be living away from home, which I know I did before for over six months, but it will be a bit different this time as I’ll be working and there will be some bills. I certainly won’t be living a luxurious life, but I knew all of this before coming here, so I have to be prepared just to do the best I can do with what I’m given and hope that in the future I’ll have either chances for other opportunities, or if things go well with the job, get raises.
Things like the rent and the internet are not all that expensive, but really if I consider that I won’t be making too much, it’s all relative. Of course if I was getting a place at home it would just be different. The rent and the internet would cost a lot more, and the wages would be a lot higher. So I think as long as I don’t live my life in excess, which will be hard to do as long as I eat at home with the groceries I have bought. It might be a little challenging in the beginning as I haven’t been working, but I really hope I get started soon. The thing that really disappoints me is thinking about how much money I’ve spent since last August 20 when I first came to Mexico. If I had come this year with all the money I had then and was able to start working right away, things would be so much nicer, but life never really works out the way one wants.
And I know once I’m working, I won’t have time to be bored, so I’ll be super busy, and instead of wanting to go out and do something during the day, I’ll be working, meaning I won’t be spending any of that money. Everyone has challenges in their lives and must decide how to face them, so it will be no different for me. I have to have a positive attitude and do my best and hope that everything works out. I mean I am 28 now, not 18, and there are people who have done what I’m doing now at 18, so I really don’t have any excuses here.
I do like the place I have found to live. While living in a room is cheaper, and there are rooms that include kitchens outside, it’s a real boxed in feeling. Now I feel more like I live in a real place instead of not just a small room, so it’s a lot nicer. And my room is actually pretty large and includes a skylight. Unfortunately there is no desk, but I can’t have everything I want. I also had to buy sheets for the bed since there was just a mattress…. I hadn’t seen a place like that before either ! Anyways, it’s a decent place despite a few things there are to complain about… mostly how the owners have been poorly prepared, but once I’ve started working and living a normal life, I think everything will be ok.
Well that’s about all I have for today. Now that I know Xanga is back on at least for this month, maybe beyond, I’ll have to start looking up the news, and finding more things to comment on once again. For the next question:
Where do you live now ? (A house, apartment, trailor, etc.) What are the pros and cons of the place you live in ? Is it a place you plan on staying long term, or do you hope to find something else in the near future ?
I’m sitting at McDonalds this time. Seeing as I had a coupon for 2×1 Egg mcmuffins and they have wireless internet here, I thought it made sense to come. This is the first time I’ve been eating at a McDonalds in a long, long, long time, but the coupon, the air conditioning, and the internet was enough to convince me to come today. I will leave you all with the last set of pictures that I took in Puebla, this time from the Ex-Hacienda in St. Martín. I wish everyone all of the best with everything. Take care and I’ll talk to you all on Monday, bye for now.
